WebModels ForumFrequently Asked Questions
|
Welcome to the new WebModels Forum for the Modeling Industry. We have a new script that offers options and features not previously available. While many of the features are easy and intuitive for even the casual user, this FAQ should help both novice and aficionado get the most out of the new format.

Set Preferences for how you want to view the forum
Subscribe / Unsubscribe to the forum mailing list
Supply an Optional Link and/or Image

Use Optional Smiley Characters a.k.a. emoticons
Enable Cookies for maximum flexibility
You must first create a profile! Once you create your profile, the forum will always identify you by your user name and email address. No one else can post using your name. Since the forum script uses cookies to store information on your computer, you won't have to enter this information every time your post. Furthermore, your profile will be recognized at all of the THETA forums that use this new script.
When creating your profile, tells us who you are, where you're located, and your affiliation with the modeling industry. Stating your level of experience is a good idea, but we don't need a detailed resume - keep it brief and concise. Your profile can also include a link to your home page and an image link. You can change or update your profile as often as you like, provided of course you have the password.
If you have not yet created a profile, you should see a Create Profile link just above the forum index. Once your profile is created, that link will change to Edit Profile. Immediately after creating your profile, you will receive an email confirmation that includes an assigned password.
Change your password IMMEDIATELY upon receipt of your profile confirmation - the forum administrators do not have access to your passwords. Therefore it's important that you immediately change your password to something that you will remember. You won't be able to post or make changes to your profile without it. Select the Edit Profile link from the forum index to change your password.
You can determine how many messages are displayed by selecting the time
period in which messages were posted to the forum. To display messages posted
within the last 2 months, check the box next to Posted within the last,
then enter a 2 in the text box and select Month(s)
from the drop down menu. The default is to list messages posted in the
last two months.
To only see a list of messages since you lasted visited the forum, check the
box next to Posted since your last visit began.
A Simple List will display all messages chronologically in the order in which they were posted.
An Alphabetical List will arrange messages in alphabetical order by their subject lines.
A Threaded List will arrange the index by threads, with responses indented below their parent messages. This is how messages are listed at WebModels and previous THETA forums.
A Compressed List contains links to each thread, rather than to each individual message, producing a shorter index listing.
The Single Message display style will show the text of only a single message at a time, though each message page will contain links from which responses (or other messages in the thread) may then be accessed. This is how messages are listed at WebModels and previous THETA forums.
The Guestbook style, if combined with the Alphabetical or Simple List styles, will display the full text of all messages on the index page; otherwise, it will display the full text of all messages in a given thread on a single page.
Sorting Oldest First will give you a list in which threads (or messages, depending upon your listing preference) are arranged with the oldest at the top of the page and the newest at the bottom.
Sorting Newest First will, naturally, do the opposite.
The other two options are relevant only to threaded and compressed listings.
The Mixed Order arranges primary messages with the newest at the top, thus tending to keep newer threads toward the top of the page, but arranges responses with the newest at the bottom, thus preserving a more "intuitive" threading structure.
Finally, the UBB Order will arrange threads by the dates of their last responses, rather than by the dates on which they were started; this guarantees that the threads with the newest messages will always be at the very top of the page, but also means that threads will be constantly "reordering" themselves on the index page.
To summarize all this, if you're used to working with forums using Matt Wright's "WWWBoard" script such as WebModels and previous THETA forums, you'll probably be most comfortable choosing Threaded List, Single Message and Newest First. If you're used to working with forums using "UBB," "EZBoard" or another variation on that same theme, you'll find that choosing Compressed List, Guestbook and UBB Order will provide you with familiar behavior on this forum. And if you're a long-time user of forums utilizing older versions of "WebBBS" with its default settings, you'll probably want to select Threaded List, Single Message and Mixed Order.
By default, this is set to No. But you have the option to use frames if you
so desire.
Once you've created a profile, the script will remember your name and email address. If your profile includes a link to your web site and/or an image, the script remember that also. Or, it remembers the link and image used in your last message. Finally, the script can remember your password. Hopefully you've changed your password to something you can always remember. To change your password, select the Edit Profile link from the index page.
You can choose to receive automatic e-mail notifications of all new posts! Select the (Un)Subscribe link from the forum index, enter your email address, check Add Address to List, and click on the Send Address button. If you're already on the list and would like to be removed, enter your email address and check Delete Address from List and click on the Send Address button.
You'll notice that the forum script remembers your name and email address.
Select a subject prefix from the (Select Prefix) drop down box, then enter your message title in the text box below.
Type the text of your message.
Enter an Optional Link URL and Optional Link Title to include a link to your web site. NOTE: you MUST include the Link Title in order for the link to show up in your message.
Enter an Optional Image URL to display a photo with your message. Please note, this URL is for an actual image address, not the address to your web site. In other words, this URL should end in .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, or .png. Most current browsers support these image formats.
Enter your password if it's not already filled in.
If you'd like e-mail notification of responses, please check this box: This is not the same as the (UnSubscribe) for the mailing list. Checking this box tells the script to notify you ONLY when someone replies to your message.
You can Preview your message to see how it looks, or Post it immediately if you're sure you've entered everything correctly.
Here are examples of the format each of these options uses. If you don't follow this format, your link or image will not be displayed in your message.
