What up front "certain fees" are you talking about Michael? I'm not talking about the cost of building a book or compcards, please do tell. To my knowledge there isn't supposed to be any up front costs for representation, period. The legit agencies I've visited and the few that Anndrea is represented by have said so as well. Likewise with a little online research one will find this to be the case, so where am I wrong here?
The fees an agency recieves are for booking the model and the model working a job, right? What other fees or costs are there or should be expected outside the normal things like pictures for thier portfolio and compcards/zedcards? I'm not disagreeing or trying to argue here, I'm actually curious to know what fees your talking about.
As far as how the agency or model gets paid and how the funds are channeled, I know what you say is true. I didn't mean to imply that the model pays the agency at their discretion, sorry if it came out that way.
Another thing that wasn't stated and maybe should be is the period of time waiting to get paid, in some if not many cases it can be several months. Payment is not always on the spot.
: Models do have to pay certain fees (including
: for their pictures, if necessary) when
: working with agencies. Bigger agencies will
: take the fees out of models' pay, but not
: all agencies are big enough to do that.
: Depending on the state, the level of fees
: can vary widely.: Also, models don't "pay" an agency
: when they get a job. The agency handles the
: money and takes a percentage, which varies
: again according to state and whether the
: agency is SAG/AFTRA. The money goes straight
: to the agency, and the model gets her money
: from the agency.: Also, payment to agencies in some areas is the
: model's fee plus 20 percent taken from the
: model and another 20 percent surcharge taken
: from the client. So, if a model's fee is
: nominally $500, the model receives $400, and
: the agency receives $200. The client pays
: $600. Does it make sense? Not to me. But
: that's the way it is.
