: David, you're just playing around with a bunch
: of things right now. And none of it is where
: you want it to be. You've tested some
: "beauty" shots, some more artistic
: ones and some glam. But it's all largely the
: same thing.

: It's time for you to pick something you want to
: master and to do it. Doesn't really matter
: what, just pick one.

: Good luck. It'll be interesting to see what you
: come up with.

I can't entirely dissagree. My primary interest and goal is fashion. However, I do tend to move around a bit, depending on my subject/model and the purpose. Most of the models I work with are fairly new, and I'm trying to produce a decent image or two for their book.

When I shoot, regardless of what or where or who I'm shooting, I have a fashion frame of mind as a reference. Not that I deliver that style, but that is what I aspire to. Whether I'm shooting a head shot/beauty shot, something body conscious, or whatever, fashion is my frame of mind. But I still have so damn much to learn about styling, make up, lighting, mood, attitude, etc. Most of what I produce is crap, by the standards to which I aspire. But as I progress little by little, I am sometimes pleased with what I produce.

Photography never much interested me until I started paying attention to fashion work, mostly that of a few close friends who shot mostly fashion and editorial. Their work inspired me, as I was in awe of what they were able to produce. I often see an image or series and try to duplicate what I saw. I've come close a few times, but still have so much to learn.

To me, and this is just my opinion, the difference between fashion and glamour is really very simple. It's a mood and an attitude of the image that makes a statement. It either says, "take a chance, you might get lucky" or "look, but don't even think about touching". The first being glamour, the second being fashion.

It's kind of like some of the art nude I've been shooting. Art or erotic nude walks a fine line next to porn. My personal definition is much the same of the two as it is for glamour and fashion. Art says look, but don't touch. Porn says have at it.

In all that I shoot, regardless of the mood or the style, I try to remain classy and elegant. Sometimes I come close, sometimes I miss by a mile. It's a personal and artistic journey, and sometimes the dragon wins... :)
