Copyright Question

I am taking a photography class and the question came up "Where does a copyright mark go on a photograph?". While the obvious answer is on the front of the photo, I'm having difficulty finding this out. Searching the web I am able to find all kinds of places where I can get a copyright, but no place that will tell me where to place the copyright after I get it. So if anybody knows for sure where this goes and can provide a link so a website that has specifics, I would really be grateful.
