: Low light photography with FUJI or Canon will easily beat film.
Actually, that's not true. The Fuji and Canon are better for moderately low light film, but for "available darkness" shots, such as night shooting, film is preferable. A Fuji 1600 speed film gives a much more pleasing result than the noisy, streaky things you can get from digital at night.
: Passage of time has not changed but the tools to measure it have.
Actually, on the mars mission the passage of time did change, because of the relativistic effects caused by the motion of the spacecraft.
: Just listen to the headline."It will take NASA a bit to process the film they just got back from Mars but the photos will be made into billboards."
If they waited a year to get the film back, the processing time wouldn't be much of an issue. In fact, the processing time for film isn't much different than for digital images, and may even be faster. Did you think the shots you saw from NASA or JPL were raw pictures?
Given a choice they would prefer to use film for visible and near-IR and UV. But the delivery charges got to be a bit steep, and the systems engineers stepped in. When it costs billions to sship the film to the lab, digital starts looking more cost competitive.
Digital is preferable for multispectral, however. It's easier to design and control spectral response with electronic sensors.
