Sure, there's lots more to the issue. I just wanted to start him in the direction of learning what the difference is between the various formats.
And you got the depth of field issue backward, as far as the end user is concerned. The smaller the sensor, the greater the depth of field for any angle of view. (Note, not for any focal length.)
Also, right now tiny individual sensors inside the array create special problems. That's why nobody else is offering a 14 megapixel 35mm-size digital right now. It's a pain to keep the noise down on those sensors.
But back to formats. There are myriad differences in how format size vs. focal lengths vs. subject size/distance all go together. Plus, the medium can be quite different for larger formats.
My intent was simply to say that Curtis' blanket statement about film vs. digital left out a number of factors. I used one as an example, hoping that will spark more thought.
