this example comes close..but does not really answer the question
is topless and sheer considered nudes??
: Matt's definition pretty much nailed it, but here is an illustration in two consecutive frames. The one on top is implied, the one on the bottom is nude.
: In the movie industry, there is a term called "nude on set" which means the performer might be required to be nude on the set, but no nudity is to be shown on film. In this case, some actresses may demand pasties covering just the nipples or G-string underwear, both of which often show up on film, especially when formatted for TV when the original was intended for theatrical.
: When shooting implied nudity, some models don't mind being nude in front of the photographer as long as nothing shows on film, while others will go to extreme lengths to keep covered no matter what.
: Sheer is a whole other deal. Oddly enough, many women feel quite comfortable in see-through blouses or lingerie and don't mind being photographed that way, but they would never take it off and be photographed nude. The legal definition of nudity in some states, particularly when it comes to minors, includes see-through clothing.
: No matter what terms a model uses to describe what she will do, the most important thing is to communicate beforehand exactly what will be shot and how it will be done.
