Pounds aren't the issue. Inches is the issue. At 5'9" you would want to be 34-24-34, possibly an inch more in waist and hips, but preferably not. Please note that the waist is measured at the smallest part, without "sucking it in." The hips are measured at the fullest part of the butt.
That said, without seeing a picture of you nobody can hazard a guess whether or not you should try modeling.
I would suggest you do a little research on "New Faces Development Center" and similar organizations. You are in NYC, you don't need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for someone else to do (less effectively than you can) what you can do for yourself.
The only answers that mean anything will come from going to open calls in NYC and submitting pictures to agencies that don't have open calls.
