I fought with my Nikon Coolscan III for months, trying both the Nikon software and Silverware, scanning negatives and slides. I was finally able to get some degree of usable scans from B&W negatives, but color negatives were bad and color slides were awful. Economy scans from the lab were far better than mine, but still seemed lacking, so when they lowered their prices for Durst scans from $8 a frame to $3 I decided to try my luck. This one is Kodachrome, shot in 1976. The one on the left is my best effort with the Coolscan III and a lot of wasted time in Photoshop, and the other is straight from a Durst, with no adjustments by me, not even spotting, for three bucks, and it looks exactly like the slide.
