Congratulations, Doug, on your good fortune. Great way to end 2003 and move into 2004. I too, have made sales and been awarded assignments from my exposure on the web. I would say that on average, the work that I have gotten as a result of being found on the web, comes to about $1,200 for each job. It doesn't happen often enough. I wish that it would happen more.

Angels 3, a contemporary gospel singing group found my website and contacted me to do the photographs for their soon to be released CD. A few months ago, I was contacted by an art director located in California to do executive portraits on location in Boca Raton.

The other side of the coin is that I also get contacted by companies who need work but want to pay below industry prices, or who want all rights without paying for it. In most cases, it is both. Furthermore, not only do they want you to drop your knickers in regards to price and usage, they obtain quotes from half a dozen other photographers. Or perhaps the point is that they are simply looking for a '3rd quote'.

But the fact is that my web site is very inexpensive for me to keep. Unfortunately, I do not update it as often as I should. If I can attribute just one day of work a year to my web site, I have made much, much more than the hosting has cost me.

More often than not, a web site is a presentation tool which works best when interested parties are directed to it. I can't tell you how many times I have directed people to my web site to view my work.

Again, congratulations on your sale. May many more come your way.

TC
