I feel the same way, Andy, and that's what I tell my models. Still, the way I feel doesn't get to determine the situation. The "market" has a movement that is all its own.

There has been something of a mini-trend over the last few years to do 3/4 shots as the "headshot". In New York it never seemed to be the norm, but you saw it often enough that it wasn't an anomaly when one came across your desk. I understand it is more common in California.

There are other "styles" that take hold too. Three or four years ago it was the style to use funky borders on the headshots. I advised then that it was a bad idea, if only because such fads tend to be (and were) short-lived, and before long the mere fact of the border served to date the shot. Sure enough, that's what happened. Now we usually see plain borders on headshots again.

It seems to me that this (acting) is an industry that thrives on limited visual creativity. Small excursions from the norms take place, and people go along with it, but before long they tire of the "innovation" and return to more classic presentations.
