Book, portfolio, web are all image based. Your images are great. Now if you were to put some off-coloured, heavily pixelated images in any of those presentations would they do as good that you took some care printing?

I was just talking to photog who is having problems with agencies beginning to refuse digital images. Their reason was that too many of the B&W images are green, purple or brown. Something they never saw with film. This photog went full digital but now has to spend countless hours educating clients on digital output. The agencies are shying away from digital and photogs who shoot digital because of their exepriences with models/photogs who do not know how to print from a file. The irony is that these agencies are hiring out models where 90% will be shot digital.

I dunno, is there anything to be gained by presenting a poorly managed image?

: : The only communication most models/photographers have with any potential client is their book.

: I suppose if "book" is very broadly defined this might be somewhat true, but if literally defined is is not.

: For fashion models the literal "book" is vital - it's very tough to be competitive without a good one. But that isn't true in other areas.

: For commercial models our experience is that 20% or so of castings are done by direct bookings right off our web site. (Admittedly that is up a great deal from only a year or two ago). Of the others, 50% or so are seen in person after the client views their comp card and asks for them; the remainder are seen simply because they fit the profile and are sent in.

: At go-sees it is rare for a client to ask to see a commercial model's portfolio (it happens about 5% to 10% of the time, and typically only when the person conducting the casting has a "fashion" heritage). The remainder of the time the comp card is the only thing they see.

: For "web models" I would imagine it is quite unusual for a model to show her physical book to get hired. Mostly these kinds of jobs are "direct booked" from websites or emailed pictures.

: The importance of a "portfolio" is greatly overrated in many market segments, even though a model still needs good pictures of a type appropriate to her intended market.
