Actually, combination of laziness and greed.
Some models these days are convinced that they aren't getting the best a photographer has to offer. I know of one model who was most perturbed that after a day's shooting, she got only 15 images from a photographer I won't name. (He isn't around here anymore to defend himself.) She said he literally deleted all the files off his computer so she wouldn't have access to anything else.
So, some models feel that it's a better bet to get a full CD and have the option of trying to print her favorites.
On the other side, burning a CD and handing it over is the lazy way out for a photographer, because it means he has an equal amount of effort in the shoot as does the model. Her hours modeling, his hours shooting.
Lately, though, I've been hearing from models who don't want a full CD. They want the pictures I've "finished."
The one I'm posting is from one such shoot. The model has had some great success of late (two magazine covers at once), yet she knows she has to have continually updated shots for her book. Plus, the stuff she was doing was tending to the harsh side of the spectrum, and she wanted something lighter.
What you're seeing is short-sightedness on the part of model and photographer. But then again, TFP from many shooters meant a set of 4x6 proofs!
