you got me thinking....how do we define a big ego, you are right, people don't normally think they have a big ego, it's other people that notice this trait. Sometimes insecurity is mistaken for ego, some people are not socially well adjusted and look like they have a big ego when really they don't, they just are not comfortable with others.

If I were going to describe ego in the work place I would describe the person with the large ego as someone who believes he or she is the most important person on the shoot. They overlook the team and take the credit for the outcome of the shot. Someone who really doesn't think about the others around them as thinking, feeling, worthy people.

I think ego is important to a certain extent in this field because without some ego we would not have the confidence to be creative. If we always worry, "what will people think?" nothing new would ever be created. We need enough ego to get past the fear of being the creator of something that people may reject when they see it.

I think the most successful people do have an ego that they balance with a respect that the people around them are just as important as they are to the project and I think they realize that to get the best out of the team they need to stroke egos around them, they have a way of giving confidence to the others they work with and that really does create an atmosphere for a great shoot and a great photos.
