That reinforced my contention that most of the REALLY big folks are big at heart.
Prime example: Dean Smith, the guy who retired as winningest basketball coach of all time (college) worked on a book, along with John Wooden. Far as I know, the book never saw the light of day, because the company went bankrupt.
Anyhow, I shot the photos for Smith's part of the book. Several years later, right after the company went into bankruptcy, he saw me shooting another ACC tournament game. He passed the word through a bunch of photographers for me to see him at the next break. I did, and he just wanted to know if I'd been paid for my work. I told him I had, he told me about the company going belly-up, and that he just didn't want anybody who had done work on the project to lose out.
Now, that's a big-hearted guy.
Just about anybody who's done any kind of work for/with him will tell the same kind of stories. The man's gentility and loyalty seem to know no bounds.
