But your example was of a situation where you could have used a verb to replace "copyrighted" equally properly. So, your choice of examples caused me to offer other options.
Pick a situation where a verb would NOT work, but blue would work, and you have the true adjective usage: "I offered him use of my copyrighted photos, but he went with royalty-free clip art instead." That's an adjective. No bout adoubt it.
