I guess this is what I get for working late. It was for a publication, which obtains a copyright. The copywriters do advertising work, while the copy editors do editorial work.
But if you want the right to copy anything that either set of copy creators does, you'd want to know that we've already copyrighted it, so as the copyright holders we require that you copy a form we've written, fill it out, sign it and return it to us. Then, we'll decide whether to extend to you the right to copy our work.
Copyright: Noun, verb. Copyrighted: verb, adjective.
It looks like you guys did the smart thing, though, and just looked it up! (I hope you copied the right definitions.)
