Models are Colleen & Tanya

Question for all shooters (and models). The subject of shoot styling was recently touched on below and I'm interested in how you all approach it...

First the qualifying data, where do you fit in the shooting / modeling scheme of things?

1) Why do you take (or model for) pictures, or, what is the end use of the images (commercial clients, personal satisfaction, the photographers or models book, etc.)

2) Do you charge for (or get paid for) your image use (TFP, money from client, image licensed to 3rd party, stock image "sales", etc.)

Now to the meat of it all... HOW the model appears in a shot can make or break the shot. The models outfits and how they are styled should directly address the answer in question #1 above. If you're shooting a TFP, then the photographers & the models preferences decide the outfits... if you're shooting for a client, then the client (or their Art Director) decides the outfits and styling (directly or indirectly)... if the images are for an agency (Zeds, comps, etc.) then their ideas are the most important. You see the pattern here...

3) so, who decides the outfit styling when you are shooting (the photographer, the model, the client, etc.), and just as important, WHO provides the outfits (or how are they obtained / provided) when shooting? ...and as an extension, how far in advance of a shoot is the outfit selection and styling done?

4) and as an afterthought, how important or critical is it to you as the photographer (or the model) to take outfit styling into account? Does it even matter to you? Is the outfit really important at all? or is it enough to simply have a model in anything in front of the camera?
