I am sorry to hear of this model's unfortunate experience, Doug. A couple
years ago in nearby Viriginia, a newbie model was murdered by a
"photographer" who turned out to be a fake. He was tracked down after a few
months, after a tip from someone else he'd tried to recruit. The model he
murdered also went to the shoot alone, after her chaperone was unable to go
along.
It only takes one encounter of this ilk to ruin your whole day, ladies. Please be
careful out there. I've been shooting for nearly 30 years now, and I also have
no problem with models -- or portrait clients, for that matter -- bringing
along a chaperone/bodyguard, although both I and an occasional model have
from time to time asked said chaperone to hang out out-of-sight (but not out
of earshot).
