Although there is nothing wrong with "hotel" room shots, you may want to consider a different lighting style than the one used on the image you included in your post above (shown again here).

Your main light would be better served if not coming from something so close to your lense (like an on camera flash), but instead off to your models side more. If you don't have any other equipment, consider aiming your on camera flash in such a way as to bounce off of a reflector or the ceiling before it strikes the model.
