: Sorry for the sensational subject, but what did you think before you opened the message?

curiosity

:What did you expect to find once you did?

not too much - there are no stories about me - well actually there are two. Crysta Ready (from PA) didn't like the fact that I wore a Plaid Shirt and had a beard - and she told the other model as much (I have that email and will be happy to post it).
another model (Linda - a fairly recent shoot) said I made her nervous.
maybe its that I don't try to date them, I don't come on to them, I don't care to get into their lives that's my saving grace - after 30 years to have only two complaints (at least that I am aware of) - that's not to shabby.
but I act in a way I believe to be professional - If I've misjudged - well - I'll find out - and if a model wants to post a rant about me - fine - I'll reply and let it go.

now - if another photographer, say one based in NYC who always takes the same up angle shots, uses an assumed name and flames me on the messaage boards he's not yet banned from - well, I usually just reply with a "Thank You"

What were your emotions before? Now?

I'm fairly stable - I generally don't react.

: Again, sorry for the object lesson

in my case there was no lesson - but I understand your point

:but see how easy it is for someone to ruin someone's reputation? Even if you're given a chance to respond? Even if you've do nothing wrong? All you need is one unsatisfied customer with a vendetta.

so your suggestion is a public forum - where any/everyone can read the post?

: So, I ask you again Bill, are you sure you want to do this?
: If so, hope you have good lawyers, you will need them.

you're still assuming this is a hate list - it isn't
but to look at the worst case...
the forums don't work on a couple of levels - because
they are public - any/everyone sees the complaint.
and we are, afterall, guilty untill proven innocent.

now - if the complaint is not valid - there is a good deal more
damage done posting it on a public form.

and even if the complain IS valid (and yes kids, some actually are) - the model's ability to get net based assignments will suffer - becasue "who wants to work with a name caller, whistle blower" or what ever.

no one seems too concerned about http://www.hallphoto.com/photoforum/ - nice place for photographers to gather, chat and exchange information.

but if you don't think that models should be able to do the same - say so. If you think they should, but MY suggestion is a bad one - offer an alternative.

I'm easy (to a point :-)
