There's the fu#*&ing problem!!!!! "... the print was an exhibition print for competition, which as I am sure you know, means it was printed for a display box for judging."

That mean it was printed to look good with bright lights on each side at 45 degree angles. What looks great in a display box really sucks under normal illumination; it looks overall dark and it looks to have no highlights. As I see the image on my monitor, the whites of the eyes are no where near 'white, they are about 10 to 12% gray! Many years ago when I left PSA competitions, I threw out all of the prints I had made for exhibition. They won medals and ribbons, but looked horrible under normal lighting.

Prints made for display boxes should NEVER be viewed under normal illumination! that includes scans! In this whole thread, we have been comparing apples with airplanes, not at talking about the same thing.

LIGHTEN YOU DAMNED SCANS BY ABOUT 10 TO 15%! That's all that's needed! Damn, that should have occurred to me, but Im old.

Now I'm going to bed to sleep the sleep of the innocent!
