Beatiful shot. I love IR photography.
Actually, in landscape photography you have virtually no control over either the light or the shadow.
Even Adams said of his most famous photograph, Moonrise over Hernandez,it was a "lucky shot." A little help from nature on his other works sure did't hurt, "Approaching Storm" comes to mind.
I believe, that most of us shoot portraits because we like to have cretive control over lighting, shadows, background, props, expression, etc. IT is harder to be creative with landscapes so we resort to tricks like putting in clouds where none were or going to IR film.
Landscape photographers have a very sterile field to hoe... consequently they seem to travel alot for inspiration.
