: Owen, you seem very defensive about your work, well I can understand that, many of us are. And yes, among other things this forum is for the critique of image, voicing opinions concerning them and offering advice. But try to accept that Michale has a point and is offering valid suggestions.

: To be honest, the prints you have been posting look very muddy on my pretty well calibrated monitor. To such an extent that I had assumed you to be a novice printer. But based on your comments in this thread concerning your experience, I expect the problem is with your scans. The content of your images is good and shows original and interesting content, but they are all mid tone, totally lacking in the higher tones and with completely blocked shadows.

: This isn't an attack in any way, just letting you know of a problem. Maybe your monitor needs calibration. I leaned from my own experience that an image can look great on my monitor, but really suck on another, unless both are at least somewhat calibrated.

: BTW, Michael is a highly accomplished shooter, among the best on the forums today. Perhaps his suggestions should not be written of so glibly?

Gee Doug, I am surprized at your comments....'

In the first place, there are high key prints (like yours), low key prints, and ones that are mostly mid-range like mine. A print does not have to have, and should not have, every graytone possible. Just like an artist, a good one that is, does not use every posssible color in a painting. He restricts his pallet.
A histogram shows the gamma range to be within my desired range.

On to point 2... Michael
After his comments in his first post... it was so easy to take all his comments "glibly." I could not resist, it wasn't so much defending my work as it was commenting on his missbeliefs and totally untrue statements.... the problem, as I see it, is that there are photographers out there that might believe him. Perhaphs yoe respect and admire his work? Allthough I have enjoyed some of his past images, his recent porn posts combined with his putting out missinformation is, I believe, only to his discredit. And he wonders why his images are not accepted on other forums?

"Among the best" well, like everyone else, you too are entitled to your opinion. And, much to my chagrin, I am sure you are not alone.
