The "snapshot" version is pretty boring. A "drugstore" print doesn't do the scene justice.
And yes, there's luck involved. But most people gave up on this day and went home, so only a few hardy souls got to experience the grand display ... and do what little we could to save it so others could see a glimpse of it.
It occurs to me that we may be looking at images with vastly different calibrations of monitors.
I made a black-to-white display (it measures solid black on one end, solid white on the other). If it looks gray on the white end, or is blocked up black about halfway across, then your monitor is calibrated far differently than mine. I use Adobe Gamma to get as close to right as I can. (A spyder would be nice, but I don't have the money.)
So what do you see?
