Dean, once upon a time in a land far away, and a long, long time ago, there was a photographer who believed everything everybody said.
This was back before studio lights allowed for reasonable light in the environment, when huge hot lights were needed. This photographer and others did find that subjects were wont to have pinhole pupils. And they did retouch things to give the subjects "normal" pupils.
It's an old, old practice, which we don't see much in the days of modeling lights and strobes.
Just a bit of history, from a near-geezer who studied at the feet of real geezers. (Did I ever tell you that my photo prof at UNC-Chapel Hill was the guy who told Kodak to pay $1 million to some chemist for the key to making the original Kodacolor film? True story. Boy, did HE have tales to tell.)
(PS: I defy you to find the pupils in Mayan's eyes. The irises are so dark, you can't tell!)
