In your photo, you have a woman praying before a cross, which is atop something that looks like a burial mound. Plus, you give her a "saint" title, thus pushing the entire enterprise toward a Catholic view of the world.

Call mine "untitled" for want of a better name at the moment.

In mine, the figure is sensual, but not necessarily provocative. The light is designed to highlight the shapes and drop everything else into the shadows. There's lots of mystery. And, by being untitled, you can let it speak to you unfettered by words.

I could have called it "Recriminations of the morning after" and you'd feel one way. Call it "Luxury in the early morn" and it means something different. Let it stand on its own, and it just might evoke a truth in you.

Note that I said yours was well put together. Nonetheless, I find the medium of assembling a costume drama, which is what the style too often degenerates into, is less artful than many other ways of photographing.

Some images you won't forget if you've ever seen them: The Vietnamese officer shooting a man. Any of Ansel Adams' Yosemite pictures. Edward Weston's sensual peppers. Cartier-Bresson's French demonstrations. Stieglitz' Manhattan series.

Those come from a wide variety of styles and schools. Yet they all share one thing in common. See the picture, be riveted to the spot. Words, at that point, are utterly unnecessary.

Would that I could produce photos that striking. Nonetheless, it's a goal, to make pictures that utterly transcend words.
