One glaring reason that agencies won't look at an agency site for talent is because of Photoshop. Way too many images on the web are Photoshopped to the point of making an attractive model beautiful and flawless.
Can a print in a book be manipulated? Yes, but the chances are far less than going online where the overwhelming majority are over the line on retouching. When an agency views a model online, they're seeing a digital image from afar. When they view a book they're looking at prints and the model who took the time to walk the book in. The odds of agencies wasting time on net agency sites only to find that their choices are full of problems like bad skin, tattoos, scars, etc.
