Since I rely on Nikon's precision auto-focus, I prefer to control the shutter speed, guaranteeing no motion blur while I let the camera choose the F-stop. I use razor sharp Nikkor lenses, and I prefer to shoot at the lower F-stops of 4, 5.6 and 8, to throw the background out of focus, putting more emphasis on the subject. I am a bigger fan of reflected and nateral light outdoors, but there are times when fill-flash can definately be an asset. I like to use the late afternoon and early evening sunlight, just before sunset.
Here's a short depth of field shot of Joe & Brenda (I do weddings too) at the world famous Mission Inn in Riverside, were President Ronald Reagan got married.
