It's all very well to do the hand-wringing and say how sad things are, but sooner or later you have to get down to making real decisions about real situations. In this case you are acting as an advisor to models.
So here's the situation: a model is given the opportunity to appear in a Herpes medication SAG national commercial (that's what Christian saw and reported to us), at a pay rate of (typically) $40,000. She isn't going to get "fame" for it (how many commercial models can anyone name?), all she is going to get is a paycheck and "exposure" (that could be taken either positively or negatively).
So, based on your philosophy expressed above, would you advise the model that it would be very "sad" for her to take the job, and that she should pass on the $40,000? That seems to be what you are suggesting.
