Maybe some models just don't want their "parts" showing in a certain photo, or in photos taken by a certain photographer. Some models don't want everyone seeing their nipples, or butt, or pubic area. Some models are selective about where/with whom they are full nude, topless, or whatnot.

I don't think models say "implied" to jack up a rate. In fact, I would think "implied" pays less than a shoot where the body parts show in full.

Personally, I like "implied." To me, it means, no nipples showing, no full buttock shots, and no pubic area showing. I don't think there is a problem with that. I see 100 ads in magazines everyday that are implied nudes. I would post implied nudes on my own site, or show them to my family/friends, and not really worry if they were offended by them. Whereas with a shot that shows nipple, bare butt, or pubic area, I might worry people would be offended by. I am personally not in love with shots of myself that show nipples, bare butt, or pubic area, and I would not post them on my site or show them to most people I know, other than models or photographes. Sorry if I am not as open-minded as a lot of models. I personally like "implied nude" shots of myself a lot, though. To me, they are more marketable, commercial, and i can show them to everyone.

I think most photographers know what models mean by "implied," and I am going to keep using that term when I describe modeling styles. I'm not a Ford model or a runway supermodel, but "implied" has worked just fine for me! :)

I would call this shot "implied topless."
