As I suspected, my question was taken poorly by at least one respondent. BUT, since you ask, I never suggested a tear sheet qualifies anyone to teach. In fact, unfortunately, the old adage is "Those that can't do, teach." It is quite true that teaching itself is an art (or skill) and JT may be a fabulous teacher, I asked what qualifies JT as a "mentor". It is on JT's web site that he claims that participants will " learn and relax with top industry professionals", I don't think one who is unpublished could claim to be a " top industry professional"
Lastly, I did not suggest one way or the other that I was "qualified to determine if someone is qualified." But again, since you ask, I have spent the last 20 years as a full time professional photographer, shooting corporate and advertising photography for fortune 500 companies, global ad agencies and national consumer and business publications. My stock is with the largest agency in the world and is used daily, again by corporations, publications etc. I have spent these year working for and with art directors, clients, account execs, art buyers etc and do have a grasp of what is commercailly viable and expected from a professionsl. In fact I do believe I am qualified to judge commercial and editorial photography.
Having spent all this time and being considered successfulby my peers (at least finacially) I would not come close to calling myself a "top industry professional." Lets not kid ourselves or anyone else, there are VERY few "top industry professionals."
Taking "glamour" photos may be fun but if it is proper to put up "model beware" and "scam alert" postings for wanna be models, maybe we should at least also question what is being sold to wannabe photographers.
