...what they are cracked up to be. Many may be surprised how many publications do no pay ANYTHING for editorial work. Paid editorial rates are near the bottom of the food chain.

Many publications figure that if you work for them for FREE, the tearsheet will get you other paid work. In some cases, this is indeed the case. But for the most part you have to measure success if they call you back to perform more FREE work.
